THE Bachelor franchise looked at Chris Harrison and said … ban all men until further notice.
In an unprecedented programming strategy that features 100 percent fewer boys, 2021 will consist of two single seasons, with Katie “Vibrator Girl” Thurston and Michelle Young set to be the respective protagonists in seasons 17 and 18. The news served as one of the bright and unrelated points to racism on Monday After the Final Rose, with guest presenter Emmanuel I think announcing the cast alongside the two women. “I was a little nervous, but when I found out it was two different seasons, I was here for that. I’m excited to have someone to relate to and share notes with as we go, ”explained Young in ATFR. “I really think this process works. When you can define all these external distractions and really dive in, I think you can learn a lot about someone. I’m very excited. I’m ready to start. “
Thurston’s season will begin filming at a resort near Albuquerque, New Mexico, while Young’s season is set for a summer production in an unknown location. Their seasons are expected to be broadcast in late spring and late autumn, respectively, and will be separated by an exciting game of Bachelor in Paradise. As a short bio reminder to all of you: Thurston is a 30-year-old bank marketing manager from Washington who has introduced her vibrator to the world on several occasions. Young is a 27-year-old professor from Minnesota who is – and we don’t want to editorialize – simply the best.
Beyond the historical nature of back-to-back single seasons, the double cast of Thurston and Young is logistically interesting. Although the two women were fan favorites during James’ season, Thurston was eliminated in the friend zone early on, ranking 11th out of all contestants. (The only other Bachelor-contestant-turned-single– led to such a low position was Hannah Brown, who finished seventh during the Virgin season.) Young, while runner-up to James, was one of five women who unexpectedly joined The bachelor in the third week, giving her much less screen time than her first day cohorts. Both women also avoided the petty drama and toxicity that plagued the house, which was quite a remarkable effort, given the extent of the stupid shit that was given to airtime.
Here is the hope that Thurston and Young’s relationship will not end with an engagement with a traitor dog food jingle writer, a dubious Michael Strahan wannabe, a would-be stalker, or a Blue Lives Matter enthusiast.
