Katharine McPhee says husband David Foster is ‘annoyed’ by her announcing her son’s name

Katharine McPhee “angered” her husband,

The former student of “American Idol” recently welcomed a son with the famous composer David Foster and, on Wednesday, she revealed on the “Today” program that they chose to call him Rennie.

The interview with Hoda Kotb and Jenna Bush Hager, McPhee, 36, joked that Foster “is likely to kill [her] for saying “the name publicly.

Later that day, McPhee appeared on SiriusXM “The Jess Cagle Show” and revealed Foster’s reaction to sharing the news.

“My husband was a little upset,” she recalls. “I said, ‘What am I supposed to say? Oh, sorry, we’re not sharing the name.'”

The “Smash” star explained that she and Foster don’t “want to be so pretentious about the name”.

“It’s the only kind of thing that you can keep that feels private, that you can keep,” continued McPhee. “But Hoda just asked me on the ‘Today’ show, ‘What’s his name?’ and I didn’t want to be like, ‘Sorry, we’re not sharing this.’ “

She joked, “I’m in trouble. I hope my husband is not too angry.”

During his appearance on “Today”, McPhee revealed the story behind the unique nickname.

“We choose [the name] Rennie, because I was in labor for a while, we didn’t have a name chosen, “she recalled.” We had a couple [of] names, but my husband was in a text string with his sisters and one of his sisters suggested an old family name. “

McPhee said the name belonged to Foster’s great-grandfather and great-uncle, so “he has a long history in his family”.

“My husband said, ‘Hi, Ren Foster’, so we said, ‘That’s a good name. It’s a strong name,'” said the star.

Things seem to be going well for the new mother, as she said that motherhood has been “the sweetest” and “the best” experience.

“I’m in heaven,” she added. “It has been really incredible.”
