Karl-Anthony Towns tested positive for Covid-19 as the list of deferred NBA games grows

Towns made the announcement on his social media, saying he received the test before the game scheduled for Friday night against the Memphis Grizzlies, which has now been postponed.

“I pray every day that this virus nightmare will subside and I beg everyone to continue to take it seriously, taking all necessary precautions,” wrote Towns. “We cannot stop the spread of this virus alone, it must be a group effort by all of us.”

Towns says he will isolate and follow the protocols immediately. Last year, the NBA star lost his mother due to Covid-19 complications, as did his uncle. Her father also contracted the virus, but he recovered.

“It breaks my heart that my family, especially my father and sister, continue to suffer from the anxiety that accompanies this diagnosis, as we know very well what the end result may be,” said Towns. “For my niece and nephew, Jolani and Max, I promise I won’t end up in a box next to Grandma and I will win this.”

Under NBA health and safety protocols, the game scheduled to take place at the Target Center in Minneapolis has been postponed. Because of the continuous contact tracking within the Timberwolves, the team does not have the eight players available to proceed with tonight’s game against the Grizzlies.

The game is just the latest in a series of clashes that have been postponed this season, which started on December 22. Twelve games have been postponed since Sunday, and 13 in total have been postponed so far this season.
