A Kansas woman was arrested last week after calling her daughter to say she had been shot in what was supposed to be a April Fool’s joke.
“Several police units, probably between 15-20 police officers from the Wichita Police Department, as well as firefighters and EMS, responded to the scene,” said Wichita police lieutenant Ronald Hunt after his daughter called 911 to report the ” shooting “- without knowing it was a joke.
The authorities arrived, surrounding Wichita’s house and blocking the nearby streets. Cops with guns drawn broke the door when no one answered, Hunt said. The house was empty.
The woman, identified as Arnthia Willis, 58, was working at the time. She was arrested on Thursday on suspicion of an illegal request for emergency assistance, police said.

“April Fool’s Day can be a good and funny joke in some circumstances,” but when it leads to a police response “it’s not funny anymore,” said Hunt.

Another woman was arrested in Ohio last week when she texted her daughter, as a April Fool’s joke, that an active sniper was at the factory where she worked.
