Kansas City Chiefs coach Andy Reid on son Britt Reid’s accident

Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid spoke for the first time publicly about his son’s car accident that left a 5-year-old girl in critical condition, saying on Sunday, “My heart bleeds for everyone involved in it.”

“My heart goes out to everyone who was involved in the accident, particularly the family with the girl who is fighting for her life,” Reid said Sunday night after the Chiefs lost the Super Bowl LV to Tampa Bay Buccaneers 31 -9. “I can’t comment on this any more than what I’m here for. So, the questions you have, I will have to refuse; but only from a human point of view, my heart bleeds for everyone involved in it. ”

Reid’s son Britt, the chiefs’ coach for the linebackers outside, was involved in the three-car accident Thursday night in Kansas City. He did not travel with the Chiefs to Tampa, Florida, for the Super Bowl.

Britt Reid acknowledged to the police that he was driving the vehicle that collided with two other cars, including the one with his 5-year-old son. The police report said the driver of the vehicle suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was being investigated for possible damage.

A Kansas City Police Department official said that Reid’s eyes were bloodshot and that the officer smelled “a moderate odor of alcohol,” according to a police statement obtained by ESPN. The statement went on to say that Reid told the officer that he drank two to three drinks and that he also took Adderall prescribed.

Asked if the incident was a distraction for him or the Chiefs, Andy Reid said: “We put the game plan in the previous week. The distraction was not a distraction with regard to the game plan. This was ready and how we were going to work with him and move on.

“From a human point of view, it is difficult. From a football point of view, I don’t think that’s a problem ”.
