Kansas City Chiefs assistant technician under investigation after car accident

A Kansas City Chiefs assistant coach is being investigated after being involved in a car accident that left a 5-year-old child with fatal injuries.

Britt Reid, coach of external linebackers and son of coach Andy Reid, was in a car accident on Thursday near the Kansas City Chiefs stadium, says a Kansas City Missouri Police Department report obtained by ESPN.

The collision happened between three vehicles: Reid’s and two others that were parked on the side of the road. A car ran out of gas on the ramp to Interstate 435, so the driver asked family members for help.

While the two were parked beside the ramp, Reid hit the car that ran out of gas and hit the back of the second car, which left a 4-year-old boy injured and a 5-year-old with fatal injuries. Both children were taken to the hospital, the report says.

A police testimony obtained by ESPN says that the police officer at the scene could smell “a moderate odor of alcohol” and see that Reid’s eyes were bloodshot.

Reid, who has a history of drunk driving, admitted that he drank a few drinks before driving, along with the prescribed Adderall, the statement said. Reid ended up complaining about stomach problems and is now in the hospital.

Reid’s injuries are not unknown, but he can stay in the hospital for days, a source told ESPN. Another source said Reid will not be going to the Superbowl on Sunday with his team.

The police told ESPN that the charges will not be made until next week, if he receives any. No one else in the car accident suffered life-threatening injuries.

“The organization was informed of an accident involving several vehicles involving Outside Linebackers coach Britt Reid,” the Chiefs said in a statement. “We are in the process of gathering information and we will have no further comments at this time. Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone involved.”

The Hill contacted the Kansas City Missouri Police Department to obtain a copy of the report.
