NBC affiliate KSHB of Kansas City reported on Friday that a Kansas City policeman reported smelling “a mild alcoholic drink odor” and that Britt Reid’s eyes were red and bloodshot.

The station based its reports on a search and seizure warrant.

The coach told an officer that he had had two or three drinks, KSHB said. Reid complained of stomach pain and was transported to a local hospital for treatment, the station said.

He was not arrested. The blood was collected for further investigation, according to KSHB.

Reid’s truck hit two vehicles – one that ran out of gas and the other that stopped to help – on an entrance ramp on Interstate 435 at around 9 pm, police said.

Two children, aged 4 and 5, were in the back of one of the stricken vehicles and had to be hospitalized, one with fatal injuries, KSHB reported.

“The organization was informed of an accident involving several vehicles involving external linebacker technician Britt Reid,” the Chiefs said in a statement on Friday. “We are in the process of gathering information and we will have no further comments at this time. Our thoughts are prayers with everyone involved.”

Reid will not train during Sunday’s game against the home team in Tampa Bay, according to NFL Network Insider reporter Ian Rapoport.

According to Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, court records, Reid was charged with drunk driving, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia in 2007. The following year, he was sentenced to up to six months in prison.
