Kane County Health Department Updates COVID-19 Vaccine Plan – Connects Kane County

LAST UPDATE: 11:34 AM, WEDNESDAY, JAN. 20

In a presentation to the Kane County Council Health Committee this morning (Wednesday, January 20, 2021). Assistant Director of the Kane County Health Department for Community Health, Michael Isaacson, said residents will be able to register online for the COVID-19 vaccine within a week or two.

Isaacson’s full presentation to the Health Committee will soon be available to watch at Kane County YouTube channel.

Isaacson said 17,045 doses of vaccine have been administered so far in Kane County, with about 2,000 more expected this week as part of Phase 1A, during which the vaccine is administered to health professionals and nursing home residents.

Isaacson said that any healthcare professional who has not been contacted and is seeking more information about Phase 1A should contact him directly at [email protected].

As local and state health officials begin the transition to Phase 1B – frontline workers and people aged 65 and over – Isaacson said the county will create a registration system that will allow each eligible resident to choose a time and an appointment. place to receive the vaccine.

Some examples of first-line vaccine containers are:

  • First responders
  • Educators
  • Food and Agriculture Workers
  • Manufacturing Workers
  • Correction officials and prisoners
  • United States Postal Service Workers
  • Grocery store workers
  • Shelter and daycare staff

Isaacson emphasized that “when and where (the vaccine is distributed) depends on external forces”.

Vaccine doses are distributed from the federal government to the state government. The Illinois Department of Public Health then distributes doses of the vaccine to county health departments or other local health care providers.

As soon as the county heard more from state health officials, Isaacson said deals were made for the vaccine to be distributed to more than 40 provider locations in Kane County.

Health Committee Chairman Jarret Sanchez said additional information will come soon, but residents must understand that the process of providing the vaccine to all residents will take time, and he encouraged patience.

“I think what people need to hear is that we are ready,” said Sanchez. “Now, it is a question of how much vaccine we are going to get and when we are going to get it. The reality is that we are only at the beginning. “

This article will be updated several times during the day to provide more details about the meeting and the presentation.
