
CROSS LANES, W.Va. – A teenager from Putnam County was shot and killed during a fight in the parking lot of a Kanawha County convenience store in the early morning hours of New Year’s Day.
According to the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Department, Caleb Marcum, 19, of the Red House, died in Sheetz’s parking lot in Cross Lanes. The shooting took place around 2 am on Friday morning, Marcum was shot in the face.
A second man from Putnam County, Scott Depot’s Brent Jenkins, 23, was also shot and is hospitalized, deputies said.
Two charges of arbitrary danger with a firearm were brought against David Tylar Rogers, 23, of Charleston. According to a press release from the sheriff’s department, Rogers “is accused of shooting a gun several times in the parking lot, endangering the lives of passers-by while he was involved in a fight with other people.”
There have been no specific charges yet in connection with Marcum’s death. The sheriff’s department is continuing its investigation.
