Vice President Kamala Harris and second gentleman Doug Emhoff will temporarily reside at Blair House while repairs are being made to the vice president’s official mansion at the Naval Observatory, a report said.
The move, requested by the Navy, involves replacing the chimney linings and other maintenance at Observatory Number One Circle, a Harris aide told CBS News.
Repairs will be easier to complete with the house unoccupied, the aide said.
It was unclear how long Harris and Emhoff will have to stay at Blair House, which is across the street from the White House and is normally used to host the president’s guests.
As soon as Harris and Emhoff officially move into the Queen Anne-style house on the grounds of the observatory, it will be the eighth time that a vice president has lived there.
The house, which was built in 1893, sits on 12 acres of 72-acre land at the U.S. Naval Observatory, still in operation.
