EXCLUSIVE: Kalinda Vazquez was chosen by Paramount Pictures to write a Star Trek movie. Bad Robot by JJ Abrams is producing.
Vazquez wrote about Star Trek: Discovery, and sources said this is a blind arrangement for an original film she created, which expands her role in Trek Universe. Vazquez was executive co-producer in Fear the walking dead. She also took her name from the original Star Trek series, after a character from the episode of the second season “By Any Other Name. ” In the 1968 episode, the character’s name was Kelinda.
Vazquez just made a noise by associating with War of Thrones author George RR Martin in an HBO adaptation of Roger Zelazny’s science fiction novel Roadmarks. Vazquez’s TV credits include Marvel’s Fugitives, Once Upon A Time, Nikita, Human Target and Prison Break, and she recently adapted Barrier, based on a comic book by Brian K. Vaughan, for Legendary Television.
The trip to the latest big screen from Starship Enterprise came in 2016 Star Trek Beyond. There have been several attempts to put together another film, including one The RevenantMark L. Smith that Quentin Tarantino and Abrams shocked, and another for Fargoit’s Noah Hawley. Both cooled off: Tarantino left the first project, and Hawley told Deadline last year that Paramount wanted to go the other way with the franchise and forced a break from his film.
