Kaela Davis signs contract with Atlanta Dream

South Carolina basketball student Kaela Davis signed a seven-day contract with the Atlanta Dream earlier today.

The news was announced by Mike Gillespie on Twitter earlier this afternoon:

Dream chose Davis after releasing Baylor alumnus Alexis Jones.

Kaela Davis was the tenth choice in the 2017 WNBA draft and played three seasons with the Dallas Wings. Davis averaged 5.7 points, 1.9 rebounds and 1.5 assists.

Davis helped Gamecocks win their first NCAA women’s basketball championship in 2017. The 6’2 striker was the fastest player in Georgia Tech’s history to reach 1,000 points in just 52 games before moving to South Carolina .

As a Yellowjacket, Davis was twice an All-ACC basketball player who dominated for Georgia Tech. She averaged more than 19 points per game for the Yellow Jackets in her second year alone.

Kaela Davis also has a good resume in terms of international play, where she won the gold medal in the 2011 Fiba U16 Championship, the 2012 U17 U17 Championship and the 2012 Fiba 3v3 U18 Championship.

Davis is currently the record holder for most games played in one season for the Gamecocks in 37 games in the 2016-2017 season. She also has the record for most hits from three field points in a NCAA Tournament game for Gamecocks with five buckets deep against Quinnipiac.

Davis had a really impressive tournament exit, averaging over 16 points per game, while shooting with 50% efficiency.

Davis is the daughter of former NBA player Antonio Davis, who is now an NBA analyst.

Davis was released by the Dallas Wings in late April, after a third season of underperformance at the WNBA.
