And AppleTV + recorded its ‘most watched weekend’ ever, with the debut of Palmer, starring Justin Timberlake.

The ‘streaming service saw a 33% increase over the average viewer’ thanks to Timberlake’s performance as a former inmate on a path to redemption, according to Variety.

The second season of M. Night Shyamalan’s Servant and Dickinson and big international numbers from Losing Alice also helped the streaming service to reach an incredible weekend 15 months after its release.

Palmer was classified as the second biggest release film for the service, directed by Zack Van Amburg and Jamie Erlicht.

The streaming service also launched Beastie Boys Story, The Banker, On the Rocks and Greyhound, and recently acquired Coda during a $ 25 million bidding war at the Sundance Film Festival.

In Palmer, Timberlake’s character is a former high school football star who made some bad decisions and ended up in prison.

After his 12 years in prison, Palmer tries to build a new life while at home, at his grandmother’s house in a small southern town.

‘Twelve years in prison I think will leave you a little numb … we saw stories about the trauma of incarceration and it played a role in how I wanted to portray this character,’ said Timberlake in a recent interview, reported by AP News .

Palmer intervenes to care for an eight-year-old neighbor named Sam, who has a history of intimidation for failing to conform to the social pressures of gender norms.

Ryder Allen plays Sam, while Alisha Wainwright plays Sam’s teacher at the school where Palmer works as a janitor.
