Justin Fields gives the Jaguars something to think about

USA TODAY Sports

The Jaguars ensured the writing of Clemson’s quarterback, Trevor Lawrence. Now, they will have to consider whether this choice should be used in Lawrence or Ohio State quarterback Justin Fields.

A week after the Saints’ running back, Alvin Kamara, scored six touchdowns in the Superdome on Christmas Day, Fields kicked off the New Year by accumulating six goals, with several impressive deep shots and an incredible display of endurance and courage after taking a great hit your lower abdomen in the second quarter.

Although it will take a long time for the Jaguars to put Fields’ name on a recruitment card, there is yet another chapter to be written, in 10 days against Alabama. If Fields succeeds in doing this again, on the biggest stage of college football, will the Jaguars seriously consider putting Fields instead of Lawrence?

First, Jaguars need to hire a general manager. So, they need to decide who will be their coach. The identities of the people who get these jobs will go a long way in influencing the final decision.

What if former Ohio State coach Urban Meyer, who has been linked to the Jacksonville job, becomes the head coach of the Jaguars? He recruited Fields for Columbus. That would certainly be a factor in the full analysis whether it is Lawrence or Fields in late April.

Regardless of how it plays out, Ohio’s unlikely 49-28 victory over Clemson makes what was a no-brainer more than that. The Jets, for their part, will catch whoever the Jaguars leave on the board – and they certainly can’t be upset about it, after what happened tonight.
