In a 5,000-word article detailing the complex tale of “Corte Snyder” by Justice League, a phrase left fans in a slight frenzy: “He remade the ending with a cameo that will blow the minds of the most radical fans.”

This quote comes from Vanity Fairrecent, comprehensive article about the film and the movement, which will culminate in the March 18, Zack Snyder’s Justice League, one four o’clock completion of a Snyder project left in 2017 and has since returned, after a wave of encouragement from fans. But that’s another story.

This story is about that provoked cameo. The line was picked up on blogs over the internet and speculation ran wild about which DC Comics character he might be – many were leaning towards one of the Green Lanterns. The theorizing got so big that, in fact, a potential candidate, Ryan Reynolds, approached her on Twitter.

Well, io9 spoke to a source with knowledge of the film and we know who the cameo really is. It’s cool, yes, but you can lower your expectations just a little.

According to our source, the cameo is none other than DC’s J’onn J’onzz, also known as Martian Manhunter.

Now, fans may be thinking, “Wait, it can’t be him. We already knew Martian Manhunter was in the movie. The actor himself confirmed. ” That’s true. You must remember the actor Harry Lennix played General Swanwick in 2013 Steel man and 2016 Batman x Superman. Snyder intended for the character to eventually become the green shapeshifter hero. Hand also worked with Justice League director Joss Whedon on Doll house.

In the past few weeks, Lennix even talked to Variety to reveal that he filmed the motion capture for Snyder’s Justice League. “[I got a call from Zack that said] “Hey, when can you come in and shoot?” That was great, ”Lennix told the trade. “I discovered that it was a possibility, or at least that Martian Manhunter would be in it, when he revealed through the storyboard that Martha Kent is coming to visit Lois, and after she leaves, she reveals that she is, in fact, Calvin Swanwick, or the Hunter from Mars. That’s how I heard about it. “

The actor is referring to the Snyder storyboards revealed in October 2019 of the scene with Martian Manhunter reveals itself. Snyder had already shot half the scene, but he just needed Lennix’s part. It seems possible that this is the scene in question here. So, if all of this was already out there in the universe, why was it referred to as something that “will blow the mind of the most radical fans?” As far as we can tell, Vanity Fair was just being averse to spoilers for a reader who is not informed about the latest superhero news. But we can confirm that the reference is in relation to the appearance of Martian Manhunter.

To be fair, not everyone reads Variety. Not everyone saw Zack Snyder’s Vero two years ago. Many people won’t know it’s coming and will certainly be surprised (which is why we put this revelation behind a spoiler bar today). Not Ryan Reynolds’s mind-blowing type, of course, the Newly cast supergirl, or any other fun, multiverse reshaping the predictions that have dominated social media in the past 24 hours. But even so, it’s really cool. Another example of Snyder finally managing to complete a vision he planned for years.

Zack Snyder’s Justice League arrives at HBO Max on March 18.

Correction 23/02/2021, 13:35 ET: The original version of this post incorrectly stated that the film would be in black and white. Snyder’s original cut was black and white, but the final version will not be. In addition, Lennix worked with Whedon at the Dollhouse and not the Justice League. We apologize for the errors and correct them.
