“Joe Manchin is a professional politician … I’m not going to get into a food fight with Joe Manchin,” said Justice. “We have managed the CARES dollars perfectly, and this state is being managed very well. If Joe wants to continue with all his political rhetoric and everything, I can’t do anything about it. ”

Justice defended the use of CARES resources, saying that the road work in question was directly relevant to access to hospitals.

“We spent $ 50 million of our CARES $ 1.25 billion on medical access roads to help people in West Virginia get to a medical center,” he said. “Our roads were in very bad shape … and we certainly spent US $ 50 million of US $ 1.25 billion on road repairs.”

Justice, one of the Republican Party governors who has expressed the most about how to keep the coronavirus restrictions and masking mandates in place, also called on his Republican colleagues to be “a little more prudent” in suspending them.

“To get to rock solid ground, that’s the approach West Virginia is going to take,” he said.
