Julie Andrews statement on the death of Christopher Plummer

“I lost a dear friend.”

Yesterday, the world lost a legend when news broke that Christopher Plummer died at the age of 91.

The Oscar-winning actor has had a career spanning decades, starring in everything from Knives Out for National treasure. But most notable was probably his role as Captain Von Trapp in The sound of music.

“The world lost an accomplished actor today and I lost a dear friend,” she said in a statement.

“I keep the memories of our work together and all the humor and fun we’ve shared over the years.”

“My heart and condolences go out to your lovely wife Elaine and your daughter Amanda,” she concluded.

A few years ago, co-stars celebrated the film’s 50th anniversary. Although Christopher joked that they “should have ended up together”, Julie explained that they “were never a couple”.

“But now,” she added, “we are the best friends. We have become the best friends, and that is lovely.”
