You read All the president’s men. Have you seen All the president’s men. Now, Julia Roberts stars as the woman who brought down the president’s men. Starz chose his anthology series Gaslit, adapted from the first season of Slate’s award-winning podcast Slow burning. According to a statement, Gaslit it will focus on the “untold stories” and “forgotten characters” of the Watergate scandal, “from Nixon’s opportunistic and clumsy subordinates, to disorderly fanatics helping and encouraging their crimes, to tragic whistle-blowers who would eventually bring down the entire rotten company.” The story revolves around Martha Mitchell, socialite and wife of one of Nixon’s men, Attorney General John Mitchell, played by Sean Penn. Unknown to most, she was the first person to disclose Nixon’s involvement, causing turmoil at the White House and in their own home. Sam Esmail and Julia Roberts serve as executive producers, bringing them together for the first time since Homecoming. Robbie Pickering (Mr. Robot) will act as a showrunner alongside director and executive producer Matt Ross (Silicon Valley), which is replacing Nash Edgerton.

According Variety, Armie Hammer and Joel Edgerton were scheduled to star, and Nash Edgerton was scheduled to direct, but they all left several months ago due to scheduling conflicts. Both roles, White House adviser John Dean and G. Gordon Liddy, head of Richard Nixon’s “Plumbers” unit, are being reworked. Hammer has been the target of several abuse allegations on social media in recent months, prompting him to leave the next film Forced marriage and The Godfather Series. Watergate is not the only scandal to touch this project.
