Joseph A. Linger
Joseph A. Linger, 83, of Westport, passed away at 1:15 pm on Wednesday, February 3, 2021 at his home. He was born on January 23, 1938 in Buckhannon, West Virginia, to Paul Havard and Evelyn Mae (Clark) Linger. He moved to Greensburg at the age of 15 and lived in Westport
since 1986. He graduated from Greensburg High School in 1958. He retired from Cummins Engine Co. in 1994 after 34 years of service. Joe was a member of the Westport Methodist Church, a former member of Eagles Lodge # 927, Moose Lodge # 2203 and Redman Lodge, all in Greensburg. He started AA meetings in Westport. He enjoyed fishing, bowling, softball and being a Little League coach in Westport. He married Roberta Ann Simmonds Masterson on May 24, 1980 in Elizabethtown, Indiana and she survived. Other survivors include a daughter, Paula Horan of Westport; sons, Richard (Roberta) Linger of Greensburg, Cole (Gayle) Linger of Noblesville, Danny Linger of Westport and Steve (Kathleen) Masterson of Charleston, South Carolina; sister, Crystal (Jeff) Little de Lafayette; 11 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Ronald Paul Linger and sister, Paulette Hudnall. Funeral services will be held at 6 pm on Monday, February 8, 2021 at the Bass & Gasper funeral home in Westport with Pastor Dale Boyd. The family will receive visitors on Monday, February 8, 2021, from 4 pm to 6 pm at the funeral home. We ask visitors to follow the social distance guidelines once inside the funeral home and masks are mandatory. Contributions to the memorial can be made through the Our Hospice funeral home.
