Jorge Masvidal responds to Kamaru Usman’s call for rematch

It didn’t take long for Jorge Masvidal to respond to Kamaru Usman.

The former UFC title challenger and “BFM” champion Masvidal (35-14 MMA, 12-7 UFC) went to social media on Sunday to fight back against Usman (18-1 MMA, 13-0 UFC), who defended his UFC welterweight at UFC 258 this Saturday, stopping Gilbert Burns by technical knockout in the third round of the UFC Apex main event in Las Vegas.

After the fight, Usman talked a lot about Masvidal, who defeated by unanimous decision in a spiteful fight at UFC 251, in July.

“I’m going to put him in a coffin this time,” Usman told reporters at the post-fight press conference. “He doesn’t want that fight. He doesn’t want that fight. I guarantee he doesn’t want that fight. I wouldn’t say if I didn’t want to. Have I lied here? Have I lied to you about anything? Nothing. I said what I wanted to do and that’s what I’m going to do. Let’s see if that materializes. “

Masvidal accepted UFC 251 with Usman in the short term, replacing Burns, who had a positive result for COVID-19. Masvidal was Usman’s original opponent, but Burns intervened when the negotiations failed.

Usman wants to put Masvidal away without excuse, he said, but “Gamebred” questions Usman’s ability to deliver (via Twitter):

Masvidal has not fought since losing to Usman. It is uncertain whether the rematch will happen next time for the two fighters, but UFC president Dana White seemed open to a possible rematch at the UFC 258 post-fight press conference.
