Jonathon Cooper boosting draft stock with impressive Senior Bowl

Jonathon Cooper had a remarkable fairy tale career at Ohio State.

He played his best football during the final stretch of his time with the Buckeyes, which certainly increased his draft stock over the eight-game season. A week in the Senior Bowl is having the same impact for Cooper, as his impressive game is drawing the attention of NFL scouts at the pre-draft event.

Cooper faced some of the country’s best offensive line players this week at the Senior Bowl – and won, giving him an idea of what he can do at the next level when he’s healthy. After being redshirted for the 2019 season, Cooper returned as a captain to make another run at the College Football Playoff – which he did – and show that he can play on the defensive end at the NFL level. He did that.

He’s also showing his skill set to Senior Bowl scouts this week.

What’s New: Ohio State Recruitment Podcast

The NCAA initiated discussions on recruitment quiet period starting on April 16 – meaning that the dead tax currently imposed would remain until April 15 – and ending on June 30, providing a window for players across the country to visit colleges for the first time since the Covid- 19 started last March while still preventing coaches from visiting recruits.

Now that there is the potential of the spring visits at the table, there is at least some hope on the Ohio side that the nation’s No. 1 player, JT Tuimoloau, will be able to finalize some kind of schedule for his own visits and, ultimately, his choice of college . There is no doubt that the Buckeyes will have a spot available for him, but in addition, there are doubts about exactly how much more roster management they are interested in doing this spring.

Which is why the continued search for linebacker Raesjon Davis and the recent Tennessee transfer Henry To’oto’o is worth paying attention to.

Lettermen Row recruiting analyst Jeremy Birmingham and co-host Spencer Holbrook address these topics and more in the latest issue of Talking Stuff: the Ohio State Recruiting Podcast.
