Lester, 37, has launched 15 seasons in the big league as one of the Majors’ most impactful left-handers. The Washington native is a three-time World Series champion, winning titles with the Red Sox (twice, in 2007 and ’13) and with the Cubs (’16), while capturing the NLCS MVP ‘ 16 and won five All-Star Game Selections. He has played the past six seasons with Chicago, ending his memorable spell in the Cubs with a record of 77-44, 3.64 ERA and three crucial victories during the destructive journey of the North Siders for the World Series title of 16.

The 2020 season saw Lester post a 5.16 worst career ERA in 12 games, including 6.2 eliminations and 1.6 permitted home runs for every nine entries. But Lester also contains an excellent post-season resume, boasting a 2.51 career ERA in October. He has also been durable, making at least 30 games in all seasons since 2008.

Lester will join a veterans rotation in Washington, led by the trio of Max Scherzer, Stephen Strasburg and Patrick Corbin, who helped the Nationals win their first World Series championship in 2019.
