Johnny Damon arrested, charged with DUI

Former MLB star Johnny Damon was arrested outside Orlando on Friday morning for drunk driving, among other charges, according to a CBS Miami report.

Damon, a two-time World Series champion with the Boston Red Sox and the New York Yankees, was arrested around 8:15 am by the Windermere Police, according to the report. He had a blood alcohol level above 0.20, per police report, more than double the legal limit of 0.08. He was accused of DUI and resisting a police officer without violence.

Damon, 47, was born in Orlando and is being held in the Orange County Penitentiary Department, according to CBS Miami. Windermere is about 20 minutes west of the city center, close to Universal Studios.

The star outfielder played in the majors for 18 years, first with the Kansas City Royals. The franchise summoned him in the first round of the 1992 draft. He became a popular figure with the Red Sox, where he started playing from 2002 to 2005. The team won the 2004 World Series.

He left the team to play for rival Yankees for four seasons and cast three different teams in three seasons before retiring in 2012 at age 38. He is twice an All-Star and has won AL MVP votes over four seasons.
