The Los Angeles Rams kept their quarterback status a secret for most of the week, but moments before the start of their Super Wild-Card Weekend fight with the Seattle Seahawks it was revealed that John Wolford was going to start. Meanwhile, regular season titleholder Jared Goff, who is still under 100% due to a surgically repaired right thumb, was listed as active, but in a backup role in an emergency. Well, it didn’t take long for Sean McVay to break the glass and bring his injured QB franchise.

On the second trip of the afternoon Rams, Wolford pulled the first and ten of the Seattle 20 in the belly and was hit by security guard Jamal Adams. While Wolford tried to fall headlong in the hasty attempt, Adams’ shoulder made direct and strong contact with the top of the quarterback’s helmet. Wolford stayed in the field for a long time, but was able to get away on his own.

From there, coaches could be seen working on Wolford’s neck before he was sent to the locker room. The team has already confirmed that Wolford has a neck injury and says it is questionable to return. According Associated Press, Wolford was taken from the stadium in an ambulance.

The sophomore completed three of his six passes for 29 yards before falling.

As soon as Wolford received the hit, Goff started to warm up, went in for two moves – one of which was a seven-yard sack – before the club opened the way for Matt Gay to hit a 40-yard field goal to end the 12-yard drive. games.

McVay noticed that Goff was playing well in practice this week, but the club still gave Wolford most of the initial reps. This appears to be due to a lack of confidence in Goff’s effectiveness in throwing the ball due to his injured right thumb, which was on full display during the offensive possession of Los Angeles, where the veteran defender failed to complete a pass when the attack was three and out.

If Goff fails to be effective in the air, McVay may need to be creative to give the Rams a chance to advance to the divisional round. The backup behind Goff would be Blake Bortles, but he is inactive for this game. The broadcast noted that gambler Johnny Hekker is the current backup in Goff’s game with Wolford out.
