John Travolta lists his 20-bedroom Maine mansion for $ 5 million

Even before Kelly Preston passed away last summer, two years after being diagnosed with breast cancer, she and John Travolta began to change their broad property portfolio across the country. In 2017, former Scientologists added a $ 3 million beachfront spread in Clearwater, Florida, the home of Scientology, and in the fall of 2019 they invested an additional $ 2.65 million for a 7,500 square foot Mediterranean residence in a celebrity-favored region and increasingly expensive Los Angeles suburb of Calabasas. And then, in early 2020, they sold the family’s long-standing property in a particularly prestigious pocket in the tony district of Brentwood, Los Angeles, in a $ 18 million off-market deal to the music manager (and neighbor side) Scooter Braun.

THE Gotti star, who starred last year in the Kevin Hart series Die Hart, on Quibi’s spectacularly lit mobile platform, also maintains an extensive airport-like residence in the Jumbolair passenger community near Ocala, Florida, where the licensed pilot parks his fleet of planes, including a Boeing 707, in the yard. However, the two-time Oscar-nominated movie star has now decided to part ways with the family’s beloved escape in the exclusive Islesboro, Maine island enclave, accessible by ferry, putting the secluded beachfront retreat on the market for $ 5 million. .

The hip rotating Saturday Night Fever icon visited the semi-remote island over 30 years ago with her showbiz friend (and also a scientologist) Kirstie Alley, who has long owned a beachfront property on the southern tip of the island. Looking for a place where they could host their extended families while on vacation, the then newlyweds Travoltas took the opportunity to take over their idyllic 48-acre property and mansion the size of a hotel in 1991.

At the end of a gravel driveway that passes under a canopy of trees and stone pillars before circulating around a perfectly tapered pine, the tile “hut” was designed by the architectural firm Peabody and Stearns and built in 1904 for ” the descendant of a prominent family of bankers ”, according to Architectural Digest, which presented the 42-room quixotic mansion in 1999, after it was renovated for the Travoltas by the classically trained decorator Christopher Boshears in a festively colorful and pattern-mixing way that suits an elegant English country house.

The foyer functions somewhat like a hotel lobby with intimate conversation areas and an extravagant bar, while a double-sided gum pink damask sofa anchors the center of the vast living room in front of a rustic stone fireplace.

The margarine-colored dining room comfortably seats more than a dozen around a polished wooden pedestal table long enough to play shuffleboard.

A porch on the second floor, one of the two in the house, has a serene view of the surrounding forest and features an explosion of pastel colors with tons of incompatible floral cushions and cozy blankets that allow you to comfortably enjoy the sun, but extremely cold autumn afternoons and dewy spring mornings.

The glass-fronted cupboards in the huge pantry are stocked with dozens of delicate tea cups and vintage cake stands, while the sunny country kitchen is simply equipped with butcher counters and equipped with chef-level equipment.

The mansion’s more than 20 rooms share only 7.5 bathrooms spread over three floors. Large enough to accommodate a living room and a private dining table, the master bedroom has its own vintage-style bathroom, along with a fireplace and a private porch for sunbathing.

Fourteen guest rooms share just four bathrooms on the second floor, while the third floor has been converted into the Fantasyland children’s wing complete with a classroom and library, a cafeteria, a theater space with an embedded stage and four themed rooms: a Princess Room and Peter Pan Room among them, according to AD

The irregular residence is a good distance from the coast, but the property includes an impressive stretch of façade of densely wooded water with a deep-water pier in the humorously alliterative Sabbathday Bay. The detached property also includes a carriage house, where the actor collector of automobiles (and planes) kept a vintage 1977 Rolls Royce for a tour of the island and a swimming pool set in a sunny clearing below the back of the house.

Some of the property’s most pristine areas are conserved as part of the Islesboro Island Trust, according to lists maintained by Brian Wickenden at Legacy Properties Sotheby’s International Realty.
