John Jastremski leaving WFAN by Bill Simmons’ The Ringer

John Jastremski is leaving WFAN to work for Bill Simmons and The Ringer, the Post found.

Jastremski, 33, has been a peculiar rising star on FAN in his decade at the station. He made the news late last year, when he told management he didn’t think it would be a good option with Maggie Gray for the midday show.

He chose to continue doing his “JJ After Dark” program, which was moved to a better place from night to early evening.

With Jastremski having significant time on his radio contract, FAN could have prevented him from having the opportunity, but chose to let him go, the sources said.

In mid-December, Simmons, founder of The Ringer, contacted Jastremski, according to sources. The negotiations led to a deal that will result in Jastremski doing three to four podcasts a week on Spotify, the home of The Ringer. It is a two-year contract with a mutual option for a third party, according to sources.

Simmons sold The Ringer for about $ 200 million, but is still in charge.

Jastremski will be doing a New York sports podcast with the rest focusing on betting, like much of JJ’s FAN program.

Jastremski is scheduled to leave FAN in early April and start at The Ringer shortly thereafter. He will still be able to make his appearances on SNY and the Golf Channel.

Although Simmons and Mike Francesa have had a relationship for years, Frances has not been involved in the move, the sources said.

The Frenchwoman valued Jastremeski’s potential. Jastremski was part of a French app a year ago.

The frantic sound of Jastremski’s Staten Island has already been compared to former French partner Chris Russo. Even so, Jastremski has not yet managed to move on to the most coveted part of the day.

The FAN will now take its time to find out how exactly it will replace Jastremski. With the Yankees season starting soon, you won’t be in a hurry and will probably just move Steve Somers in the rotation. She plans to eventually make a new hire, according to sources.
