The 2021 NFL season has already had a rough start. After the league announced that the salary cap would be $ 182.5 million, the teams were forced to clear their lists of veteran players that would cost the team a lot of money to maintain.
You saw reports circulating like wildfire from players who were being released to create wage cap space for specific organizations.
One such player was John Brown, a former Baltimore Ravens and Buffalo Bills receiver.

To be completely honest, when the launch was made, it did not send a shock wave across the NFL scene. He looked like another veteran who will hit the free agency before the 2021 season, but then Brown joined SiriusXM’s NFL Radio to talk about what happened.
Upon hearing the clip below, the first thing that stands out is how Brown talked about not having the slightest idea that the change was being made. He was under the impression that he would return to Bills in 2021, and questioned whether quarterback Josh Allen would have any influence on the squad change.
He would continue and, when asked which team he would like to play in 2021, he listed two teams. The first? The Pittsburgh Steelers. Listen to the clip below:
“The Pittsburgh Steelers, Big Ben are definitely good with the deep ball and the Indianapolis Colts”

Here is Brown’s complete quote in response to Ed McCaffrey’s question:
“I mean, you know, it depends on who needs receivers. But I definitely, you know, the Pittsburgh Steelers, Big Ben is definitely good with the deep ball, and Indianapolis Colts, the way they use TY Hilton. When we played these guys in the playoffs last year, I went out and I was like, this team, they are growing and coming, they will be a problem for years to come. So, you know, I have options, I feel like I would fit anywhere, but those are just the two main ones. Anywhere, I can come in and help and be a little piece of the puzzle, or if they need me to be a big piece to help guys get out and move and do what I have to do. However, these are the two main teams. “
Brown is coming out of a very disappointing season in 2020, where he struggled with an injury. Brown played only nine games, but managed to record the following statistics:
Games: 9
Receptions: 33
Yards: 458
Average: 13.9
TDs: 3
There has been a lot of talk about the Steelers expanding their wide receiver room in this off-season, and many are crying out for a veteran to help lead the young reception room. Brown would certainly fit that profile, but at what price?
The Steelers still have work to do before they can be considered “buyers” at the free agency, and until that work is done, whether cutting players or restructuring contracts, you can expect the team to stand still while other teams make moves.
However, stay tuned to BTSC for the latest news and notes on black and gold as they prepare for the new year of the league, the NFL Free Agency and the 2021 NFL Draft.
