Comedian Joe Piscopo told America’s Newsroom on Wednesday that he welcomes the story about Hilaria Baldwin, who is facing an immense reaction for revealing that he was born in Boston, Massachusetts, and not in Spain, as he had previously suggested .
“My opinion is different,” said the former SNL star. “I really appreciate it … This is so much fun. It feels so good.”
He explained that he is enjoying the strange saga because the news has been “crazy”.
“Look at 2020,” said Piscopo, referring to “all the negativity”, especially in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic, which already claimed more than 340,000 lives in the United States on Wednesday, according to data provided by Johns University Hopkins.
He added that Baldwin has spoken with a Spanish accent in the past “and she is not from Spain”.
“You have to love it, you have to appreciate it and embrace it with all the bad news out there,” said the radio host.
But not everyone embraced the story.
On Monday, People’s Ale Russian wrote about his own experience in a first-person essay entitled “Why the Hilaria Baldwin scandal is painful for immigrants – including me”.
“What Hilaria did is not funny: it is a slap in the face,” wrote Russian.
On Tuesday, The New York Post published an opinion piece entitled “Oh, Alec Baldwin, you must know more than you are revealing.”
Alec Baldwin continued to support his wife, fighting critics who claim she was misrepresenting the extent of her Spanish heritage.
The 62-year-old actor and impersonator of Donald Trump shared a quote from Mark Twain on his Instagram on Tuesday after the story surrounding the 36-year-old yoga / wellness expert dominated the headlines the day before.
“A lie can travel half the world while the truth is putting on your shoes,” says the quote.
Over the weekend, Hilaria Baldwin responded to a tweet that said, “You have to admire Hilaria Baldwin’s commitment to her long decade of life, where she pretends to be a Spanish woman.” The tweet has already been deleted.
However, this generated a storm of clips and resurgent interviews in which Hilaria, whose real name is Hillary Hayword-Thomas, suggested that she came from Spain and moved to the United States to go to college. In an interview with The New York Times, Baldwin tried to correct some of the things she says are misconceptions about how she performed.

“It’s very surreal,” she told the outlet. “There is nothing I am doing wrong and I think there is a difference between hiding and creating a limit.”
Various media reported that she was born in Majorca, Spain, but was born in Boston.
She explained in a podcast in April 2020, “I moved here [to America] when I was 19 years old to go to NYU from … my family lives in Spain, they live in Mallorca. “The accent of the bilingual mother of five also fluctuated noticeably over the years when she appeared on TV. For example, she says she is bilingual and usually speaks in several different accents, depending on her mood. When it comes to articles and biographies that incorrectly list her as Spanish, she notes that she does not read articles about herself and therefore did not know that her ethnicity was being reported incorrectly.
As for the “cucumber” moment, she says she was simply nervous about being live on TV and gave a “fart in the brain”, a colloquial term for when a person forgets something basic.
Piscopo emphasized on Wednesday that he is “loving every minute” of the story.
“We were easily offended,” he said. “Why did she do that? I don’t know. I think it’s a subject for a ‘SNL’ sketch, I’m just saying.”

“Please don’t take offense, just embrace the story that has something to do besides politics or the pandemic,” continued Piscopo.
