Jet general manager Joe Douglas met with the media on Tuesday to discuss the way forward for a team coming out of the 2-14 season and will involve defender Sam Darnold.

As team president Christopher Johnson did on Monday, Douglas found good things to say about Darnold and what the future holds for him in the NFL. He also joined Johnson not to say that his choice of the first round of 2018 will be back with the team in 2021.

Douglas said any call will wait until the team hires a coach.

“Look, we have a lot of decisions to make,” said Douglas, via SNY.tv. “I think Sam is going to be a great defender. I’m excited to have a head coach here, to go through our process. I had a great conversation with Sam yesterday. I won’t go into details, but I think Sam has a very bright future in this league. So, let’s put a head coach here, let’s get together and talk about some decisions. “

Douglas was asked whether Darnold, who lost four games due to a shoulder injury, regressed during a season that saw him throw 11 interceptions and nine touchdowns. Douglas said Darnold “faced a lot of obstacles this year” by noticing injuries to the offensive line and wide receiver, but it will take a minute or two to see if it deserves a mulligan in a dark season.
