Giri / Haji creator Joe Barton is going to Gotham to take on the exhibition duties on the next HBO Max show Batman TV series.
The British writer joined the series as a showrunner and executive producer after Terence Winter left in November.
It was understood that the Boardwalk Empire The creator left the series, which accompanies the feature film by Matt Reeves Batman, because of creative differences.
Barton is best known for creating a police drama set in Tokyo and London Giri / Haji for Netflix and BBC. He also wrote on AMC and Channel 4’s sci-fi drama Humans and Netflix and BBC’s epic drama Troy: Fall of a City. Other projects include Sky suspense Extinction and an adaptation of Sally Green Kinda bad with Andy Serkis for Netflix.

HBO Max made a serious commitment to the project last summer. It was designed to build on the film’s examination of the anatomy of corruption in Gotham City, launching a new Batman universe across multiple platforms. Focused on the Gotham police department, the series will extend the world established in the film and further explore Gotham’s myriad of complex characters.
Reeves, in August, said that the series is a prequel to his Batman Year Two movie, with the show set in Batman Year One, when a “masked vigilante … begins to disturb the city”. The series will focus on the city’s corruption that “goes back many years” and is told from the point of view of a dishonest police officer, Reeves said in August.

Reeves, Barton and Batman producer Dylan Clark is the executive producer, alongside Daniel Pipski and Adam Kassan of 6th & Idaho. Rafi Crohn of 6th & Idaho is an executive co-producer.
