Joaquin ‘El Chapo’ Guzmán’s wife arrested for drug trafficking at Virginia airport

The wife of notorious Mexican drug trafficker Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman Loera was arrested Monday at an airport in Virginia on charges of drug trafficking, federal officials said.

Emma Colonel Aispuro, 31, was arrested at Dulles International Airport and faces charges of conspiracy to distribute cocaine, methamphetamine, heroin and marijuana for import into the United States, the Justice Department said in a press release.

She also allegedly helped Guzman Loera escape from a Mexican prison in 2015, the department said.

Guzman Loera was convicted in 2019 on 10 counts of involvement in a continuing criminal company and several counts of distributing tons of cocaine in the United States. He was sentenced to life in prison for another 30 years.
