JJ Watt’s former teammate strikes to join him at Cardinals: ‘Let’s finish what we started

The Houston Texans split from JJ Watt last Friday after the team complied with his request for release. Since then, teams and players from across the league have expressed interest in the NFL’s three-time Defensive Player of the Year.

On Friday, league sources told ESPN that nearly a dozen teams showed interest, including Pittsburgh Steelers, Cleveland Browns, Buffalo Bills and Tennessee Titans.

Former Arizona Cardinals teammate and current wide receiver Deandre Hopkins is the latest player to make his official presentation to Watt. On Tuesday afternoon, Hopkins posted a photo on his Instagram with Watt when they were together at Texans, and he put the caption on the photo saying, “Let’s finish what we started …”

Watt was chosen for 11th place overall by the Texans in 2011. A professional player five times, Watt has set several franchise records, including sacks, loss tackles, quarterback strikes and forced fumbles. He totaled 531 tackles, 61 defended passes and 16 fumble recoveries over 10 seasons.

Watt is the first of what could be a sign of what lies ahead for Texans. Quarterback Deshaun Watson has requested a change of team, but the organization appears to be interested in retaining Watson. It will be interesting to see how this situation will unfold in the coming weeks.
