Jimmy Garoppolo’s future is unlikely to be in San Francisco

With the 49ers making a bold change in the 2021 draft from No. 12 to No. 3, all signs point to coach Kyle Shanahan coveting one of the best quarterbacks – and being comfortable having two of them before choosing.

If, it seems, the 49ers gave up on the 12th overall choice, two future choices from the first round and a choice from the third round for a quarterback, it means that Jimmy Garoppolo and his $ 25 million compensation package for 2021 will be gone.

Except for a sharp cut in pay and understanding that he is simply keeping the seat warm for the rookie, Garoppolo will either be negotiated or released. Except for a sharp cut in payment to facilitate trade, Garoppolo will be released.

We pose the question of whether Garoppolo will eventually be cut in the past month. We also explained that GM John Lynch said what he had to say when he said that he “has no doubt” that Garoppolo will be the starter.

Look for the 49ers to try (unsuccessfully) to sell the idea that Garoppolo will remain in place in order to build some commercial leverage. Unless they can find a business partner or make Jimmy take less, Jimmy will probably leave.

And then he will be free to sign with any other team. Like maybe the Patriots.
