Syracuse, NY – Syracuse coach Jim Boeheim has never hesitated to express his views on current events and has in the past criticized President Donald Trump.
But on Wednesday, a day when protesters stormed the country’s Capitol in Washington DC, Boeheim said he did not want to get into politics because fans canceled their tickets to Syracuse’s basketball games after his previous comments on the presidential election in Syracuse. 2020.
“It’s a sad thing, ” said Boeheim. “I’m just not going to get into politics. Two people canceled their tickets for the season because I said I thought the election was over. ”
Boeheim was directly questioned by a reporter about the disturbances in Washington DC after Syracuse’s game against Pittsburgh on Wednesday.
Protesters upset over Joe Biden’s victory over Trump in the 2020 election pushed barricades, were attacked by the Capitol Police and entered the Capitol building.
But right after the game, Boeheim was relatively reserved when asked about the day’s events in Washington DC, referring to fans who canceled their tickets.
“These people are crazy,” he said. “Two guys who had tickets for the 38-year season canceled them because I said the election was over. They said, ‘No, it wasn’t. It was fixed. ‘
“This is sad. It is sad for our country. It is just a horrible, horrible thing. ”
