The Jets have a decision to make about the future of quarterback Sam Darnold, but it is not a decision they are in a hurry to make.

Before deciding what to do with Darnold, the Jets will evaluate all the best quarterbacks in the draft, according to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network.

These assessments will include all of the players’ Pro Day workouts, as well as individual interviews with the players, so it will probably be close to the draft before the Jets have made a firm assessment of what they want to do with the second overall choice and what they want do with Darnold.

The Jaguars must catch Clemson’s quarterback, Trevor Lawrence, with the first overall choice. Second, the Jets are probably deciding between Zach Wilson of BYU, Justin Fields of Ohio, Trey Lance of North Dakota and Mac Jones of Alabama.

Darnold has another year left in his rookie contract, and the Jets are unlikely to take his fifth year option. The Jets can try to negotiate Darnold or give him another year with a new coaching staff to show what he can do.
