Jets-Texans trade Deshaun Watson ‘just doesn’t make sense’, according to ESPN’s Todd McShay

At first glance, the New York Jets looks like a likely Houston Texans trading partner to quarterback Deshaun Watson.

After all, general manager Joe Douglas is sitting in a pool of first-round choices after swapping safety Jamal Adams for the Seattle Seahawks. In addition, Douglas has a ton of space available on the cover, making it possible to absorb Watson’s huge contract.

But Todd McShay, a member of the ESPN NFL Draft, said on Thursday that he did not think the Jets should switch to Watson. By The Big Lead:

For me, it just doesn’t make sense. I don’t think you’re getting a major upgrade. If I’m Jets sitting in second place (in the draft), I’m saying, ‘I love Deshaun, he’s a very good player, I might even think that he’s a little bit better than Sam (Darnold).’

Isn’t it a big update?

Darnold shot for 2,208 yards with nine touchdowns and 11 interceptions in 12 games last season.

All Watson did was lead the NFL with 4,823 yards, despite his favorite target DeAndre Hopkins negotiating with the Arizona Cardinals before the start of the season.

Watson also launched 33 touchdowns, the best of his career, and seven interceptions, the worst of his career. Watson’s 112.4 QB rating came in second in the NFL, behind only Green Bay Packers MVP contender Aaron Rodgers. Darnold came in 35th with a rating of 72.7.

Isn’t it a big update?

Jets fans better hope that Douglas turns off McShay’s misinformation.
