Jets plan to fire Adam Gase

The expected firing of Adam Gase is about to happen after Week 17, according to Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero of NFL.com. Although Gase said earlier this week that he was not notified that he would be fired, the Jets’ 0-13 start basically ensured that he would not return.

This will mark the second expulsion of Gase in three seasons; the Dolphins fired him after the 2018 season. He went 9-22 with the Jets. Although the successful former OC led his team to defeat wins on two possible playoff teams and helped the Jets hire GM Joe Douglas, the last two seasons of Jets have involved controversy and have continued to lose.

When it comes to a replacement, the Jets seem to be looking for a wide variety of candidates. Current assistants Eric Bieniemy (OC Chiefs), Matt Eberflus (Colts DC), Don Martindale (Ravens DC), Arthur Smith (OC Titans) and Brandon Staley (DC Rams) are configured to be considered. Just like college coaches Jim Harbaugh (Michigan), Matt Campbell (State of Iowa) and Dan Mullen (Florida), according to NFL.com. Harbaugh, a former Jets contender, looks like a long shot. Former 49ers coach is finalizing an extension to stay in Michigan, Bruce Feldman of The Athletic tweets.

After taking the Dolphins to the playoffs in his first season as head coach, Gase saw his teams lose the last four postseason keys. In New York, he rivaled the previous GM Mike Maccagnan and was consistently linked to dissatisfaction with Le’Veon Bellcontract and performance of. More than two months after Bell’s cut, the Jets will leave Gase. They were prepared to fire Gase earlier this week if the Browns’ turn had not taken place, according to NFL.com.

The Jets have already fired Gregg Williams after the polarizing defensive coordinator made a move that cost the Jets an excellent chance of defeating the Raiders. Gase and Williams also fought. Jet ownership sought out Williams, which helped lead to then Baylor HC Matt Rhule refusing to leave college in 2019. Rhule ended up in Carolina a year later.

The attack of the Gas Jets rarely generated much enthusiasm. The team has struggled to build an offensive line and has not equipped Sam Darnold well in skill positions. As a result, first general choice No. 3 has regressed. And during the months that the Jets were connected to Trevor Lawrence, Darnold often landed on trade rumors. When Darnold’s third season ends, his status is in limbo. The Jets are expected to retain their second overall choice in April and may well have a quarterback to start the post-Gase era.
