As the NFL season draws to a close, we bring you another 2021 NFL Mock Draft
We are approaching a solidified recruitment request, as the regular NFL season has ended; the college football season is also only a week old. The prospects are announcing and the team’s needs are becoming clear, as another 2021 NFL Simulated Draft is set to begin.
The College Football Playoffs shed light on the quarterback battle, when the Ohio State quarterback heard all the negative feedback and went out to destroy the secondary Clemson. This battle for QB2 behind the obvious choice is far from over, but Fields has shown that he was the pre-season QB2 for a reason, and that he has all the talent of any gunslinger in the class.
Where does he get in this simulated draft? As the board falls in three rounds of fun.
* Draft order determined by current rating via Tankathon
1. Jacksonville Jaguars: Trevor Lawrence, QB, Clemson
No doubt here at the top of the board. Despite being harassed by the Ohio State defense all night in the semifinals, Lawrence managed to make great shots to crucial levels of the field. A game will also not define his position as a prospect, as he is still the most talented passer to enter the draft since Andrew Luck left Stanford in 2012 (and potentially earlier).
While the Jaguars secure first choice in the draft after a season of victory in 2020, Lawrence is the clear and easy target at the top of the draft. While the Jaguars look for their franchise quarterback and franchise face, they need look no further than the guy who has been the coveted award since entering school in 2018.
2. New York Jets: Justin Fields, QB, Ohio
There was never any doubt in this writer’s mind that Fields is the second best defender in this class. The rise of BYU quarterback Zach Wilson made it difficult in the public eye, but Fields has tools to make teams drool. From his mobility, to the clean pitch movement, to the zipper he can put behind his throws, Fields has the ingredients of a superstar on the next level.
After losing to Lawrence with consecutive wins at the end of the season, the New York Jets take Fields with the second overall draft pick here. After the resignation of coach Adam Gase, they will look for a new face also in the center. Pairing Fields with names like a new and innovative coach, the future looks less bleak for the green gang.
