Jets franchise marks Marcus Maye amid agent tension

The drama of the Jets’ Marcus Maye contract is over – for now.

Gang Green used the franchise’s mark on his star security on Monday, confirmed Brian Costello of The Post. Although Jets general manager Joe Douglas said that Maye’s renewal was a priority in the off-season, contract negotiations began to get ugly last week when Maye’s agent criticized the organization.

The use of the franchise brand means that 28-year-old Maye would receive $ 11 million this season, but would have no long-term guarantee. The decision to appoint Maye, who would be eligible for a free agency, needed to be made by Tuesday. With that, the Jets still have until July 15 to negotiate a long-term agreement.

Maye was the Jets’ best player last season with two interceptions, 11 defended passes, two forced fumbles and two sacks and became a leader in the locker room.
