Jets add the old Eagle Vinny Curry to their line of defense

The Jets hired unrestrained defensive striker Vinny Curry.

Curry signed with Green & White on Wednesday night and joins a DL room that was one of the team’s strengths before the free agency subscription period started and added two other veterans to the group last week at the edge rusher Carl Lawson and versatile man Sheldon Rankins.

Curry (6-3, 279), who turns 33 in June, is entering his 10th NFL season after spending eight of his first nine years with Philadelphia and a season with Tampa Bay in 2018.

He played his school football at Neptune HS, in downtown New Jersey, where he was captain of the team, MVP of the team and All-State as a senior. So, with both the Jets and the Eagles, he remains within walking distance of his hometown.

He was the Eagles’ runoff selection, 59th overall, in the 2012 Marshall University draft, after placing 23 sacks in the 2011 seasons and 12 for the Thundering Herd.

Curry has been a rotating DE for most of his career, although he started all 16 games for the Eagles in 2017 and has made 28 of his professional appearances in his last four seasons. He had three more games in the postseason 17, including Philly’s victory over New England in the Super Bowl LII.

He played in 123 regular season games in the NFL and totaled 32.5 sacks – with career records of 9.0 sacks and four forced fumbles in 2014 – plus 92 QB strikes and 194 tackles.
