Jessica Simpson says she talks to her kids about her experience with sexual abuse

Jessica Simpson has no problem talking about her past struggles with her children.

The 40-year-old singer published a memoir, “Open Book”, last year, in which she disseminates information about her past, including relationships, addictions and allegations of sexual abuse.

In an interview on “Good Morning America”, Simpson revealed that he talks openly about his struggles – including the alleged abuse – with his children – Maxwell, 8, Ace, 7 and Birdie Mae, 2 – who were invited to read his book.

“Both have [the memoir] next to the bed, “explained Simpson.” And they are starting to be very good readers and have already read some things. There is nothing that is off limits. We are a very open family. For me, when I talk about sexual abuse and other things, these things happened to me when I was younger than them and at their age. So, it is something that we are very open about. “

She then recalled a conversation with Maxwell on the difficult subject during an autograph event in New York last year.

“A woman came up to me and was crying and was with her daughter and she was saying, ‘What did you go through as a child, you know, really encouraged me to talk to my therapist and be open with my family about it,’” the actress remembered. “And Maxwell was like, ‘Mom, what is she talking about?'”

The star said she realized it was time to talk to her daughter about her experience and stopped the autograph event.

“But it was a perfect moment because she saw how to be open and honest with her feelings and how you can inspire people that way … how honesty really is moving and how it can make a change in people’s lives and she saw it mom was doing it, “said Simpson.

After the argument, the mother and daughter duo returned to the hotel, where Maxwell started writing a diary.

“She has been writing in her diary ever since,” said the proud mother. “So, it’s really cute.”

She continued: “I just think that as a parent it is very important to really have everything open. There is nothing that is embarrassing to talk about and there is nothing to be ashamed of. And no one will judge you. And if they will come and be there for you. And if they’re not, someone else will. But our family is very close. “
