Kim and Terry Pegula watched their NFL team reach the AFC Championship Game, where Bills lost to the Chiefs. The Pegulas are now watching their daughter, Jessica, do a similar run that they hope will last even longer.
Jessica Pegula defeated Elina Svitolina of Ukraine in the fifth round of the Australian Open, winning 6-4, 3-6 and 6-3.
It was Pegula’s first victory over an opponent in the top 10, earning the American his first trip to the quarter-finals of a Grand Slam tournament.
Pegula, 26, occupies the 61st position in the world ranking.
His four tournament wins include victories over Victoria Azarenka, two-time Australian Open champion, and Sam Stosur, 2011 United States Open champion.
Pegula plays the winner of the match that followed hers, between No. 22, Jennifer Brady, from the United States, against No. 28, Donna Vekic, from Croatia.
