Jennifer Garner talks about the ‘heartache’ of teenage daughter Violet Affleck, 15, as she grew up … as she admits that children call her a ‘fun killer’

Golden Globe winner Jennifer Garner revealed that the most personal parallel of her new film Yes Day involved her relationship with her 15-year-old daughter, Violet Affleck.

“I never made a film where I drew more based on personal experience,” admitted the mother of three, 48, in Monday’s episode on SiriusXM’s The Jess Cagle Show.

‘The first draft [of the script] really had the teenager [played by Jenna Ortega] being sarcastic and really nasty and a problem maker.

Jennifer continued: ‘It is heartbreaking for the mother and the teenager, and just need to have that kind of disruption of babymama ties. This is what is so difficult. You don’t need her to be an idiot. It is even more difficult for her to be adorable. ‘

Violet was just 6 years old when Garner started transforming the philosophy behind Amy Krouse Rosenthal’s 2009 book into a real-life family tradition.

“My kids call me a ‘fun killer’ – that’s in the movie,” noted the Texas-born and West Virginia-raised star.
