Jennifer Aniston has generated quite a bit of controversy this Christmas.
The actor became a trending topic on Twitter on December 26 – and no, it’s not because of the future Friends reunion or your adorable puppy, Lord Chesterfield, this time. Instead, Aniston found herself in the middle of a debate over a COVID-themed Christmas ornament.
It all started when the Friends alum posted a photo on her Instagram Story on Christmas Day that showed her holding a wooden decoration with the words “Our first pandemic in 2020” engraved on it.
It is unclear whether the ornament is hers, but Twitter has plagued her for this, as many were not happy to see Aniston celebrating what was such a dark time for many. Some called the ornament message “insensitive,” “Out of reach” and “Deaf to tones” in light of the millions of lives that were lost with the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
“Jennifer Aniston is an idiot for posting that ornament in her story … celebrities are idiots,” one person tweeted, adding, “‘Long live our first pandemic of 2020, where millions of people died! Let’s celebrate this in a Christmas ornament! ‘”
“All the celebrities have done during this pandemic is to show how they are out of reach and simply forgotten about everything that has nothing to do with them. Some people’s entire family has died, but at least Aniston is showing how peculiar she can be” , tweeted another follower.
However, others quickly came to Aniston’s defense, saying the ornament was simply a joke.
Some even shouted at those who tried to “cancel” Aniston over the image.
Aniston had previously shared posts about the victims on COVID-19 and constantly urged his followers to wear masks to prevent spread. “I understand that masks are inconvenient and uncomfortable,” she wrote in July. “But you don’t think it is worse that companies are closing … jobs are being lost … health workers are reaching absolute exhaustion. And so many lives have been taken by this virus because we are not doing enough. “
She continued: “I really believe in people’s basic kindness, so I know we can all do this 🥰 BUT still, there are many people in our country who refuse to take the necessary steps to level the curve and keep each other safe. People seem concerned about their ‘rights being withdrawn’ when asked to wear a mask. This simple and effective recommendation is being politicized at the expense of people’s lives. And it really shouldn’t be a debate 🙏🏼 If you care about human life, please … just #wearadamnmask 😷 and encourage those around you to do the same ❤️ ”
