Eric Church and Jazmine Sullivan made history on Sunday during Super Bowl LV as the first duet to sing “The Star Spangled Banner” in the Super Bowl in over a decade.
The last time this happened was in 2006, when Queen of Soul Aretha Franklin and American vocalist Aaron Neville got together to sing the anthem. His performance exceeded 120 seconds while Franklin sang the last notes.
However, the country music star and R&B singer ended in two minutes and 22 seconds.
Grammy-winning singer HER sang “America the Beautiful” while The Weeknd performed during the halftime show in Tampa.
Jewel holds the title of the Super Bowl’s shortest anthem with one minute and 27 seconds. Although the average was below the two-minute mark, five of the last eight Super Bowl hymns exceeded two minutes.
Before Super Bowl LIII, Gladys Knight made a long version of “The Star Spangled Banner” in two minutes and one second. Alicia Keys, however, holds the longest anthem in Super Bowl history, with two minutes and 35 seconds.
