Defensive defense of South Carolina football Jaycee Horn a choice is already projected in the middle of the first round by many of the NFL mock drafts and he only helped his case on Wednesday during the Gamecocks Pro Day. Horn posted incredible test numbers on the school’s premises and certainly caught the attention of gifts.
Five general managers, along with Tennessee Titans coach Chad Vrable, came to South Carolina on Wednesday to witness first-hand exactly what Horn was able to do from the testing standpoint.
The day started when Horn stood at 1.83 m, 3/4 inches and 205 pounds, which is basically in line with how Gamecocks included him on the official list. These figures were not a surprise.
But Horn posted a 41.5-inch vertical jump, an 11-foot, 1-inch wide jump and a 40-yard run time of 4.39 seconds. These test numbers are elite and match the numbers with the game’s movie, and Horn is sure to have a short wait in April, when the NFL Draft arrives.
Senior Bowl Executive Director Jim Nagy recently explained on ESPN’s NFL Mock Draft 2.0 Special why he really thinks Horn is a better prospect than Surtain and Farley.
“For me, Jaycee Horn from South Carolina, another bigger, bigger guy is better than both, “said Nagy.” The reason I like Jaycee so much is, first, when you talk about a press officer and an outsider, Jaycee probably does both better than the other two – in terms of versatility and how you can use it. Two, I just love the confidence, the style and the aggressiveness with which he plays.

Horn received second All-SEC team honors from league coaches and third team honors from Pro Football Focus … started each of the first seven games as a cornerback … credited with 16 tackles … led the team with eight passes defended, including six pass separations and a couple of interceptions … average of 1.14 defended passes per game, second in the SEC … set a record for the five-tack season in Florida …
Had the best game of his career in the win over Auburn … credited with three tackles, two interceptions and four pass separations, winning Walter Camp Defensive Player of the Week and SEC Defensive Player of the Week … he chose to leave the last three games of the season after the dismissal of the head coach Will Muschamp… nominated for the SEC Fall Academic Honor Roll … credited with 101 career tackles, 23 pass separations and two interceptions.
