Jaycee Horn impresses in front of the Cowboys at Pro Fay

The Dallas Cowboys boss had a few busy days focusing on college cornerbacks available in the April draft. After participating in Alabama’s Pro Day to check out Patrick Surtain II, Vice President of Staff Will McClay and defensive coordinator Dan Quinn went to South Carolina for the Gamecocks’.

The center of attention? First-round candidate Jaycee Horn, and he didn’t disappoint, slightly surpassing Surtain’s metrics in all areas.

With the Cowboys reaching tenth place, there is no doubt that a dynamic player will be available. Strong players like Surtain, Florida TE Kyle Pitts, Oregon striker Penei Sewell or Northwestern’s Rashawn Slater are said to be in contention for the team. Horn, however, placed a star next to his name with excellent numbers to support his aggressive nature in the film. He only had to run the 40 once after three different timers recorded his speed at 4.39.

Horn also proved his ability to tackle the occasion with a vertical jump of 41.5.

Horn is not an unknown name in the NFL. Joe Horn, Jaycee’s father, most notoriously played for the Saints as a wide receiver.

His athletics is apparent in his film. Against the Auburn Tigers, Horn had three tackles, two interceptions and four pass separations. The game itself earned him the title of Defensive Player of the Week Walter Camp Nacional and Defensive Player of the Week for the SEC.

This performance was his best, but the best performances were unlikely to occur once, as he managed two interceptions and six pass deviations in the year, with 23 pass separations in his three seasons.

While the battle for CB1 turns Horn to the surgery scheduled for Caleb Farley, the intrigue surrounding the draft will only grow from this point on. The Cowboys’ choice seems to be turning into quite a conversation with so many athletic players trying out their tapes on professional days.
