Two South Carolina football players were in the top 100 of the PFF.
Two Gamecocks entered the Pro Football Focus initial list of the 100 best eligible players in the draft before the NFL’s 2021 Draft. One has already announced his intention to pursue a professional career, while the other plans to return to Columbia for a final season.
The cornerback Jaycee Horn comes in 24th on the list, after posting impressive numbers in his three seasons. Horn has been a regular in high school since the day he stepped on campus, and projects to be a first-round selection in April.
Here’s what PFF had to say about the old Gamecock.
Horn has the athleticism and mentality of an NFL-level corner man – he will not give up on anyone.
For his career, the talented corner totaled 101 tackles, 23 pass separations and a couple of interceptions. In seven games this year, he allowed only eight receptions for 24-pass pass-catching opponents.
His best game of 2020 came at the turn of the Gamecocks’ 15th Auburn, where Horn defeated Tiger Bo Nix’s quarterback twice, almost returning one to a scoreboard. He was elected the national player of the week for his efforts.
The second player on the list is Kingsley “JJ” Enagbare running pass specialist. The athletic defensive end ranks 61st on the list, after finishing second in the SEC with 0.75 sacks per game in 2020.
Enagbare registered six sacks in seven action games, while forcing a league with three fumbles. The rising senior has chosen to return for a final season in 2021, which is great news for the defense of Carolina who urgently needs shipowners.
The NFL Draft is scheduled to run from April 29 to May 1 in Cleveland, OH. Gamecocks had a player eliminated in the first round of the event in two of the past three seasons.
