Jayapal tests positive for COVID-19, criticizes some Republicans for ‘cruelly’ not wearing masks

Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal, D-Wash., Accessed Twitter on Tuesday to announce that she was diagnosed with COVID-19 and criticized several Republicans arrested with her during last week’s Capitol riot who did not wear masks.

Jayapal posted that she was “locked in a safe room on Capitol Hill, where several Republicans not only cruelly refused to wear a mask, but also mocked colleagues and officials who offered them.”

His office issued a statement saying that some members and staff were told by Dr. Brian Monahan, the attending physician to the United States Congress, that those arrested in that particular room were exposed to “another occupant with coronavirus infection”. She said they were in the room for “several hours”.

She said there were more than 100 people in the room and believes it was an “oversized event”.

The Capitol rebellion resulted in five deaths and at least 120 arrests. House Democrats want Trump to be removed from office and see him as a danger. Trump supporters also condemned the violence, but insist that Trump did not incite the event.

“A few hours after President Trump incited a deadly attack on our Capitol, our country and our democracy, many Republicans still refused to take the minimal precautions of COVID-19 and simply wear a mask in a crowded room during a pandemic – creating a superspreader event at the top of a domestic terrorist attack, “she posted.

She said she is isolating herself, but will continue to work to the best of her ability.
