Jamiroquai star Jay Kay was forced to deny that he was at the Washington protests on Thursday after fans compared him to a tattooed fan who was photographed at the protests.
The 51-year-old singer joked that although he was a fan of the protester’s furry helmet, “it wasn’t his crowd” that violently invaded the United States Capitol on Wednesday.

Jay posted a video on Twitter clarifying his whereabouts after a fan posted a photo back of him alongside a heavily tattooed Trump supporter.
They posted the caption: ‘Poor Jamiroquai! What happened man? ‘
Jay addressed the fans’ outrage at participating in the protest, clarifying that the MAGA supporter, who has since been identified in Jake Angeli, was not him.

In his Twitter video, Jay put on an American accent and said, ‘Good morning, world. Well, some of you may be thinking that you saw me in Washington last night, but unfortunately I wasn’t with all those crazy people.
He went on to offer his support to blocking fans and his band, which he hadn’t seen in weeks, and thanked his followers for their birthday wishes after turning 51 last month.
Jay captioned his video: ‘Good Morning Washington, loving the helmet, but I’m not sure if this is my audience. Be safe, everyone, J xxx. ‘
The tattooed protester became a reference in far-right protests thanks to his attractive appearance, with horns, a fur hat and US-themed face paint.

Authorities lost control when protesters entered the Capitol building, vandalizing and invading, with part of the MAGA crowd arriving at Nancy Pelosi’s office.
Since then, several celebrities have asked politicians to invoke the 25th amendment – which legislates for the vice president to take control if the commander in chief is “unable to exercise the powers and duties of his office” – and end his term in two weeks early.
The protests came in conjunction with the dispute in the Republican Congress over election results, before Biden’s planned inauguration on January 20.
Twitter suspended Trump’s account after a series of tweets that did little to stem the ongoing violence.
